چکیده
This research is linked to the FET funded iCHEM project (session 76 Talking with Chemicals: Challenges of Biomimetic Infochemical Communication). In this communication we describe the development of a heterologous expression system, expressing insect olfactory receptors in Sf9 cells, which will be implemented in a surface acoustic wave (SAW) biomimetic sensor.

An overview of odorant-binding protein functions in insect peripheral olfactory reception.
Insect olfactory perception involves many aspects of insect life, and can directly or indirectly evoke either individual or group behaviors. Insect olfactory receptors and odorant-binding proteins (OBPs) are considered to be crucial to insect-specific and -sensitive olfaction. Although the mechanisms of interaction between OBPs or OBP/ligand complex with olfactory receptors are still not w...
متن کاملApplications and Advances in Bioelectronic Noses for Odour Sensing
A bioelectronic nose, an intelligent chemical sensor array system coupled with bio-receptors to identify gases and vapours, resembles mammalian olfaction by which many vertebrates can sniff out volatile organic compounds (VOCs) sensitively and specifically even at very low concentrations. Olfaction is undertaken by the olfactory system, which detects odorants that are inhaled through the nose w...

Transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ1, β2, and β3) are 25 kDa disulfide-linked homodimers that regulate many aspects of cellular functions, consist of proliferation, differentiation, adhesion and extracellular matrix formation. TGFβs mediate their biological activities by binding of growth factor ligand to two related, functionally distinct, single-pass transmembrane receptor kinases, known as...
متن کاملRecent concepts about sense of smell, odorant receptors and physiology of olfaction- an insight
The sense of olfaction reached its zenith in development much earlier than other special senses. Olfaction is much more acute than the other senses, exhibits both high sensitivity for odours and high discrimination between them. This plays a very important role even in the social and behavioral aspects of human beings. Recent studies using molecular genetics, electrophysiology and behavioral an...
متن کاملThe Stimulatory Gαs Protein Is Involved in Olfactory Signal Transduction in Drosophila
Seven-transmembrane receptors typically mediate olfactory signal transduction by coupling to G-proteins. Although insect odorant receptors have seven transmembrane domains like G-protein coupled receptors, they have an inverted membrane topology, constituting a key difference between the olfactory systems of insects and other animals. While heteromeric insect ORs form ligand-activated non-selec...
